Need a Tooth Extraction?

There are several reasons a tooth may need to be removed. The more common reasons are decay, pain, a tooth infection or an abscessed tooth, or impacted wisdom teeth.

Wisdom teeth generally start to make a nuisance of themselves in your late teens or early 20s. At this stage, most people have a full set of permanent teeth, so the wisdom teeth cannot properly come through the gum, and end up becoming ‘impacted’ or ‘stuck’ and may need to be removed to prevent damage to the teeth next door.

Tooth Extractions & Wisdom Teeth Removal

The first step of having a tooth extraction (including wisdom teeth extractions) is to make an appointment with us. Often we can remove or extract your tooth at that first visit, which will relieve your pain. You may require antibiotics afterwards to prevent infection – we will prescribe this to you if necessary.

Wisdom teeth removal – normally requires us to take a special full mouth X-ray first that shows the exact number and positions of all your wisdom teeth. We can then give you an accurate estimate of how much the procedure will cost and book an appointment for the extraction of your wisdom teeth.

The removal of your tooth will be painless with the help of local anaesthetic (injections). However, for those people who would prefer to not be ‘aware’ of the procedure, the option of IV sedation or Nitrous Oxide sedation is available.

After the procedure, it is best for your to be on light duties and rest for a day or so to maximise healing. If you have any stitches they may need to be removed in one to two weeks.

All of our caring staff will do their best to make your experience as pleasant as possible.
